Due to a new climate for adoption and use of GMO crops, the Program on Agricultural Technology Studies (PATS) at the University of Wisconsin-Madison began a study to document the adoption patterns of Bt-corn and HT-soybeans. PATS researchers had collected data on Bt-corn and HT-soybean adoption during the 1998 growing season in a spring 1999 statewide survey of over 1,400 farmers. The PATS staff then conducted a follow-up survey of GMO adoption in the winter and spring of 2000 in which about 600 of the same respondents were asked about their GMO use in 1999 and their intended GMO use in 2000. Some of the basic findings of both PATS GMO studies are reported here.
