Farm Numbers in Wisconsin: Entry, Exit, and Impacts
Declining farm numbers, particularly in the dairy sector, and the difficulty of entering and exiting farm enterprises are serious issues for Wisconsin's agriculture. As the lead unit of the University of Wisconsin system of the future of family farming in the state, the Agricultural Technology and Family Farm Institute (ATFFI) conducts research to develop a deeper understanding of these issues and addresses current conditions in the state's agricultural sectors that contribute to these farm entry and exit problems. This fact sheet is based on research conducted or evaluated by the institute. It summarizes key historical trends related to dairy and all farm enterprises in Wisconsin.
