This fact sheet summarizes information on crops, dairy production, land sales, and land values for the Central District of Wisconsin between 1990 and 2002. This fact sheet is meant as a companion piece to more extensive data available on the Wisconsin Land Use Data CD and the PATS website. In general, cropping patterns in the Central District mimicked those of the state, with a slight decline in the total acres of major crops. For the individual crops, there was a substantial drop in plantings of forage crops and rapid growth of soybeans. The dairy industry experienced considerable declines in cow numbers, farm numbers, and milk production in the 1990s, but rebounded between 2000 and 2002. On average, district farmland loss was similar to that of the state, while farmland values increased at a slower rate than the state average.
