This fact sheet summarizes information on crops, dairy, farmland sales, and farmland values for the West Central District in Wisconsin between 1990 and 2002. It is meant as a companion piece to more extensive data available on the Wisconsin Land Use Data CD and the PATS website. The changes in the crop sector in this district show a slight decrease in total acres of major crops, with significant increases in acres of soybeans and losses in acres of forage crops. The dairy industry experienced greater losses in the West Central District than it did in the state as a whole, and losses in milk production and cow numbers accelerated after 1999. On average, district farmland values were lower than the state average, with St. Croix County being the only exception.
